Zip World was born in the lush hills of North Wales and has stayed true to its predominantly welsh roots ever since. With sites now spanning, Bethesda, Blaenau Ffestiniog, and Betws-Y-Coed; the adventure team are repaying the loyalty shown by their neighbours in the eights years they’ve been situated in the Welsh mountains.
Opened in 2013, with the launch of Velocity, the adventure facility has gone from strength to strength. The addition of the first four-person zip line in Europe was certainly a draw for the adrenaline crowd.
The attraction Bounce Below set in the caves of a former slate quarry; has recently been a source of television intrigue. The new style TV show is due to air in March, each level of the chamber has been carefully transformed. Imagine a giant maze, filled with intricate puzzled and a difficult surface to navigate. Mental acuity, teamwork and a high level of fitness; will be testing people to their limits.
But why not just head into the caverns for a fun bounce with the family; leave the puzzles to the professionals. Bounce Below isn’t for the faint-hearted. Be prepared to jump, run, bounce, and more than likely, fall over…lots! It’s a great way to bond as a group; the slides and slippery pathways really inspire the ideas of teamwork.
Zip World has decided to give something back to the community that they love to serve. Promoted as being “unique exhilarating adventures”, they have enticed locals with a loyalty promotion. Residents with a qualifying postcode can claim a code which will net them a saving of 50%, on adventures such as the Titan Zip Line, and the latest addition, the Fforest Coaster.
Fforest Coaster, it’s exactly what it says on the tin. Strapped into a little cart, you begin by heading up a steep track just itching to reach the top to start the race. Six minutes. That’s all it takes, but they’ve packed in the thrills. Zooming through the trees at a whopping 25mph. Rushing down steep hills at a 25% gradient; all this with the brakes only at your fingertips. Hairpin bends, spine-tingling drops, and hair raising screams from behind.
Also located at the Betws-Y-Coed site, is the Skyride. Are you feeling brave? Try a ride on Europe’s highest five-person giant swing. Set at an impressive 80ft in the air, this is definitely for the thrill seekers amongst you.
