On 31st July 1902 the first car moved off from Victoria Station, to the sound of the town band playing “God save the King” and today it is still the only cable-hauled tramway still operating on British public roads. The Great Orme Trams are now run by Conwy County Borough Council as a unique and treasured part of Llandudno’s living heritage.
At the Halfway Station exhibition, discover the fascinating funicular tramway – then enjoy the spectacular ride to the Great Orme summit at 679ft. If you are looking for a twist to your adventure ride the return journey by Cable Car!
Your Tramway Journey begins at Victoria Station which is located near Llandudno’s seaside pier. Once traveling up the Great Orme you will witness some of it’s great beauty and history such as the Copper Mines. If you feel like a change of pace on the other hand, you can simply change trams at the halfway station to continue your journey to the summit on foot where a breath taking view awaits.
When arriving at the summit you can visit a verity of activates for you and your family to do. For example, you can have an exciting time learning about the Great Ormes history by visiting the Great Orme Country Visitor Centre, have a picnic at many picnicking sites or why not visit the Great Orme’s fascinating Bronze age Copper Mine which is only a 5 minute walk from the Tramway’s half way station. Whatever it is you have planned, you will sure have an amazing time with the Great Orme Tramway experience.
